The general guidelines of the admission and registration procedure can be found here. A maximum of 10 students are accepted every year. Of the new students, the proportion of those which are on part-time Schedule cannot exceed 30%.
Once it has been verified that the candidate complies with the admission requirement of regulations (RD 99/2011), and specific UPM regulations approved in Consejo de Gobierno celebrated on December 21, 2011, The Academic Commitee of the Ph- D program will carry out the selection and admission process, in accordance with the restrictions in number of students and the selection and admission criteria listed as follows, taking into account the adequacy of the candidates to the recommended admission profiles and establishing when necessary, additional background requirements.
In the selection process, the following merits will be valued:
- Academic record of the candidate: grades, adequacy of the degree to the Ph-D program, and prestige of the University providing the degree.
- CV: research and professional experience, particularly in activities related to the research lines of the program.
- Letter describing the student’s motivation to join the programs.
- Recommendation letters from faculty or working environment.
- Having obtained external funding for full-time dedication to the program.
Three different Access profiles for the program are defined :
- PROFILE 1 REFERENCE PROFILE (Engineers with some background in Industrial Engineering):
- Masters Degree in Engineering from ETSII majoring in Industrial Engineering or Masters in Industrial Engineering, posterior to RD1393/2007 or Engineers with degree prior to RD 1393/2007 or equivalent.
- Mater in Industrial Engineering RD 56/2005 or equivalent.
- Engineers or Architects with Acknowledged Research Experience (RD 185/1985) or Advanced Studies Diploma (RD 778/1998) within the realm of the program.
This profile does not require additional background courses.
- PROFILE 2 (Engineers in other fields):
- Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Engineering , posterior to RD 1393/2007 or equivalent.
- Engineers who graduated before RD 1393/2007. This requires a degree of at least 300 ECTS or equivalent.
Additional background subjects associated to this profile are listed as follows (maximum of 18 ECTS):
- PROFILE 3: Other graduate degrees with background in the field of the program or in other fields but with professional experience in the field of the program.

Subjects similar to those listed as follows, and offered in other graduate programs could be accepted as additional student background. Only the subjects with a title in English will be taught in English.
If admitted, students may find in the UPM website página web de la UPM the procedure and deadlines for registration in the Ph-D program for Spanish, EU and non-EU applicants.
Non admitted applicants may apply for review of the decision as established in each call. Once these applications have been dealt with, a final list of students admitted will be sent to the department in charge, so that students may register within the time period established. If the student does not register in time, he/she will lose his/her admission rights/status.
